For more than 20 years, Jennie March-Aleu has been in news media, first as a producer/videographer and more recently as a photojournalist, interested in documenting social issues of the moment.
Born in Mexico, Jennie grew up in Mexico, California and Switzerland, and speaks fluent Spanish and French. She attended UC Berkeley and later the University of Southern California, where she earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism (1980).
Jennie worked in Los Angeles in news and television advertising. In 1985 she started her own video production company in San Francisco, producing a variety of award winning corporate marketing and industrial films over the next 15 years. After moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2002, Jennie began focusing again on still photography in her professional career.
In January 2005 she flew to the tsunami-ravaged area of Banda Aceh, Indonesia, to photographically document the tragedy of the victims and the spirit of the survivors. Some of these images are included in this portfolio.
Jennie has focused her career on photography, finding the medium compelling for its inherent ability to capture "the decisive moment" that inspires reflection. She is currently working as a freelance photographer for World Picture News in New York City and various newspapers in the Denver metro area. Jennie also travels internationally to document compelling stories of people and socially significant issues that need to be brought into the spotlight.
